Jackson Will Have Shelters Open For Those Without Power

Jackson County will have shelters open across the county for those who are without power after Sunday’s winter weather.

Mayor Randy Heady said that shelters are at Dodson Branch Community Center, New Hope Baptist Church, and Granville Community Center, among others. He said that they also are able to deliver generators to those with immediate need.

“For those that need emergency assistance,” Heady said. “Some people have oxygen at home and other medical needs, we have generators that we’ll help get that out to them (…) With that being said, we can’t supply a generator to every home to keep a refrigerator on or something. But for those that need oxygen or something.”

Heady said that Haydenburg typically has a shelter, but the area and the shelter itself is experienced power issues. He said that while he’s hopeful that Upper Cumberland Electric crews will be able to get more homes back on the grid, it looks like if you don’t have power at this time it won’t be back on before tomorrow.
