Crossville City Manager Signs Two-Year Contract Extension

Crossville City Manager Greg Wood will have another two years in the position after signing a new contract extension.

From working in similar positions in Georgia and Florida, Wood said Crossville officials have been the best to work with over his 30 year career.

“The mayor does a lot of hard work that he does not get credit for. He’s easy to work with, and he lets me do my job,” Wood said. “The council is the same way. They’ve allowed me to hire professionals for department head positions when they come open and allowed me to build a very good team.”

Wood approaches five years in the position and said this makes him the longest tenured manager in several year. The two-year extension begins in March of next year.

“It gives you continuity to be able to develop department heads so that you have a chain of command, and we’re training people for the future,” Wood said. “We’re establishing mentoring that had not occurred before, so we would have department heads training people to be future department heads, which would allow us to better utilize folks here that are native to Cumberland County which has been an issue in the past.”

Wood said moving forward, he is most excited about moving in the company Whisper Aero. The start-up tech business announced Crossville as its headquarters in the summer and focuses on electric thrusters for drones and aircraft.

“If this program is able to get off the ground, I think it would make some exciting changes to Crossville,” Wood said.
