Jackson 911 Asking Residents To Update Emergency Contact Information

Jackson County’s 911 Department is asking residents to make sure their information is up-to-date when it comes to emergency notifications.

Director Michael Smith said that after the storms earlier this month, it’s a good time to remind folks how important correct information is to emergency responders.

“If you don’t have your address posted, we can’t find you,” Smith said. “If you don’t have the correct phone number to get in touch with you we can warn you to take shelter or if a fugitive is loose or if we just need your help finding a lost child.”

The E-911 Department posted some figures on its Facebook following the storm. Smith said that it included data from the county-wide alert system to show just how many people they were able to reach. He said that they wanted to remind people of the service available.

Smith said the data is in a secure database that will only be used to get ahold of people in the event of an emergency.

“The address itself is in a secure database,” Smith said. “The phone number you put is just to let us get ahold of you and it’s not given out to anybody else. It’s just a prerecorded phone line exactly like the school system uses to tell you about snow days.”

Smith said that there is a link on the Jackson E911 Facebook page to update information. He said that residents are also able to sign up loved ones if they have their email address, phone number, and home address available.
