Tech Celebrates Over 800 Graduates At Fall 2021 Commencement

Tennessee Tech celebrated its December commencement on Friday afternoon.

President Phil Oldham recognized over 800 graduates receiving their degrees. Board of Trustees member Tom Jones emphasized that even though students have graduated, the learning doesn’t stop.

“Never stop learning, never reach a point in your life that you think ‘I know everything I need to know, I’m finished,'” Jones said. “You’re never finished. But at this point in your life, you get to choose and steer your course and control what you want to do. Mainly because you’ve gotten a good education and you’ve gotten the tools you need to start.”

Jones said that as they set out to accomplish future goals, it’s important to have goals that aren’t for the self. He said that life can be that much more enjoyable if you do things for your family, friends, and community.

Oldham said that the group of graduates is joining an elite group of people who have graduated from a university with one of the best starting salary rates in the state. He said that he wanted to especially thank the mothers, fathers, wives and husbands of the graduates.

“For entrusting to us the education of your sons, daughters, and spouses,” Oldham said. “No greater expression of confidence has ever been paid to an institution, and we appreciate it greatly.”
