Cemeteries across the Upper Cumberland are entering an out-of-vase period as the Christmas holidays approach.
City of Crossville City Clerk Valerie Hale said the city allows an “out of vase” period at the Crossville City Cemetery. Hale said that the typical guidelines are that all flowers must be in a saddle on top of the marker, or in vases beside.
“The guidelines are in place to help us keep the cemetery in order, keep it clean, keep it organized,” Hale said. “And also to help during the summer months when it’s time to mow, it makes it a lot easier for the maintenance people to keep it from damaging anything that might be on the grave.”
Hale said that the out of vase period is to allow people to more fully honor their loved ones. She said that the period began Wednesday. It will continue until Friday, December 31st.
Hale said beginning Monday, January 3rd, any flowers not following the usual guidelines will be removed by staff.
