Need to burn some extra calories after Thanksgiving?
Tennessee State Parks offering “After Thanksgiving Hikes,” as an alternative for those wanting a more secluded Black Friday. Burgess Falls State Park Ranger Lane Erwin said those in White County can come to the park at 9:00 a.m. for a guided tour.
“We’re going to be hiking the main trail at our park, which will past four different waterfalls ending at our 135-foot waterfall,” Erwin said. “It’s going to be a little chili. It’s only about a mile and a half of trail. It’s a relatively moderate to strenuous trail.”
Erwin said only 15 spots will be available for the guided hike. But, all state parks are participating in the hikes and will be open normal hours Friday so others can independently hike.
“There’s really nothing like any of your Tennessee State Parks in the early morning time,” Erwin said. “Burgess in particular is really quiet in the morning. It’s really good if you’re into birding or looking for wildlife and it is such a peaceful time.”
Erwin said the “After Thanksgiving Hikes,” are a part of the state’s five signature hikes conducted each year. Erwin said registration links can be found on state park’s website or by calling a state park.
