A monthly car cruise-in event will be coming to downtown Gainesboro.
The Board of Aldermen gave approval to the event and road closures required Thursday. Event Coordinator Charlie Brown said his plan is to have the cruise-in every first Saturday of the month.
“Every county around Jackson County has a cruise-in, and this one doesn’t,” Brown said. “I know a lot of people that has old cars that live here that go else where.”
Brown said the events are set to begin in the spring. Brown said it would be similar to the layout of the Jeep trunk-or-treat in Gainesboro. Brown said his main goal is to regenerate the car scene in Jackson County.
“Basically from where Broyles was around that top side up to the road in front of the Bull an Thistle,” Brown said. “That’s about all I am really after.”
Aldermen Ricky Head said he liked the idea as long as Brown communicates with local police to plan the road closures. Brown said he has also received permission from county officials to use the courthouse restrooms and set up a PA system.
