The Upper Cumberland Regional Airport Air Fair starts Friday, boasting plenty to see and plenty to ride.
The Air Fair starts at 1:00 PM, running until 7:30 PM on Saturday.
Airport Manager Dean Selby said there is a C-54 transport plane for aircraft enthusiasts and Black Hawk Helicopters for the military fans. Selby said that just today one of the coolest aircraft they are offering touched down in the Upper Cumberland.
“I’m sitting here looking out my window in my office at an A-10 Warthog that just landed maybe 10 minutes ago that’s here for the show,” Selby said. “For people to be able to come look at and hang around and do that kind of stuff.”
Selby said that the sights to see will not end at dark. He said that Friday and Saturday night will offer unique visuals, with a hot air balloon glow and a night time drone light show.
The drone light show features neon lights and formation flights through lit pylons in the night sky. However, Selby said you do not have to enjoy all of the aircraft while staying on the ground
“The DC-3 is going to be giving rides, we’ve got smaller single-engine stuff for people that don’t want to spend that kind of money on rides,” Selby said. “In like a Cessna 172 and then the balloons are going to be giving rides on Saturday morning, weather pending.”
Selby said there will also be helicopter rides available during the Air Fair. He said the goal was to offer enough things to do and see that no one gets bored waiting on the next event or flight to happen.
