Cedar Hill Senior Living participating in the statewide initiative to “Sock Out” Alzheimer’s.
The Cookeville location will sell purple and orange socks leading up to Sock Out Alzheimer’s Day. Housekeeper Rebecca Randolph said the $5 price helps Alzheimer’s Tennessee increase awareness.
“It’s just to show support in memory of someone you may know that has passed away or they may have Alzheimer’s,” Randolph said. “You wear socks that day. If you want to dress up you can just to show your support and love.”
Randolph said October 29th is the day to wear the socks. Randolph said the proceeds also helps fund the senior community’s Alzheimer’s team. Randolph said the center has a hand full of residents that currently fight the disease.
“$2,000 and that’s what our goal is set for that year,” Randolph said. “We do different fundraisers, have dress up days and we have luncheons. Just whatever we want to do throughout the year and try to raise money.”
Randolph said Alzheimer’s stands without a cure to this day. Randolph said the disease is a struggle that people have to face everyday. Randolph said a contribution and awareness can help that change.
“Try to hopefully one day find a cure that’s the goal,” Randolph said. “Just hopefully be able to find a cure for it, because it is just such a bad disease.”
Randolph said socks can be purchased at 1250 Cedar Hills Drive in Cookeville, or by contacting a staff member at (931) 526-9108. Randolph said the sale may extend beyond October 29th depending on demand.
