Putnam Schools Surveying White Plains For Site Expansion

The Putnam County School System is taking another step towards an expansion at White Plains Academy.

Deputy Director Tim Martin said a land survey has been contracted. Martin said the purpose is finding the best location on the campus for the VITAL Center and Student Services.

“They’ll have to go out there and determine if there’s any water lines, electric lines,” Martin said. “Anything like that, that they have to avoid or situate on the property.”

Martin said that architectural drawings will come after the right location can be agreed on. He said the expansion is due to a continuing student population increase in the VITAL program and more space for Student Services offices.

“Looking at moving the VITAL program completely into a new building and having a little bit more room for our online programs,” Martin said. “That has greatly expanded here in the last couple of years. We need some room for some teachers down there and some meeting rooms when those students have to come in, especially at test taking time.”

Martin said this project is still in the planning stage. The system considered expanding Student Services at the current location but decided to relocate because of state involvement at the existing property.
