Sparta’s Turntable Road will get some safety upgrades through an advanced warning light.
City Administrator Brad Hennessee said the signal flashes, green yellow or red to tell drivers what color the upcoming stop light is.
“There’s a fairly sharp turn around that last set of buildings there on Turntable Road,” Hennessee said. “As you come around the back of the last string of buildings, you don’t see the traffic signal until the last minute.”
Hennessee said the goal is to protect drivers that are not familiar with the roadway. Hennessee said the city has seen accidents in the past due to drivers not braking in time for the intersection.
Hennessee said the project is paid through a $50,000 T-DOT grant. Hennessee said the city will meet with the department in September to create a timeline of work.
