Fairfield Glade Ladies Club, 50 Years Of Supporting The Community

The Fairfield Glade Ladies Club will celebrate 50 years of supporting local organizations in Cumberland County Wednesday.

President Becky Price said the organization began in 1970 and has grown to over 300 members. Price said Wednesday’s meeting will be the first of the season where they discuss the upcoming monthly service projects.

“Opportunities for scholarships with students over the years,” Price said. “We do fundraising for local projects within Cumberland County, and we are big supporters for our fire department.”

Price said this month, members are providing school supplies for Cumberland County students. Price said after that, they will help supply the local Good Samaritan organization with toiletries.

“Month of November, it is Peavine Care Center, which provides food for people who need it,” Price said. “Following the month after that, we will be doing the Cumberland Children Center.”

Price said some seven members made up the the original Ladies Club as a social outlet. Price said members started with small projects like buying a piano for a local church and providing clothing for a young deaf man.

The first meeting of the season actually makes for the 51st year, but the anniversary was not celebrated last year due to COVID. Price said before the pandemic, the Ladies Club had over 500 members, so the organization wants 2021 to be a bounce back year.
