Van Buren BOE Approves Renovations For Three Playgrounds

New playground equipment and renovations will begin at Van Buren Pre-K and Elementary School next month.

That after the Board of Education approved a some $147,000 bid for the work Wednesday. Director of Schools Cheryl Cole said the expenditure is a part of the districts ESSER 2.0 spending plan.

“Some of them will have swings. Some of them will have little merry-go-rounds,” Cole said. “It’ll have the big piece of equipment where you got slides. You got climbing stuff. It will be a whole lot better for our kids.”

Cole said the two Pre-K  playgrounds will have rubber instead of mulch for ground cover. Cole said the Elementary School site will have a new rubber flooring installed, as well. Cole said the installation should be completed within the next few months.

“They are the ones that put it together, and they are usually quick with it,” Cole said. “Cause they did the playground out here in front of 5th grade.”

In other business, the school’s 2021 spending plan was adjusted after BEP estimates came in $103,000 higher than estimated. Cole said this is a common occurrence over the summer as student population changes.
