Vol State’s Cookeville and Livingston Campuses are seeing enrollment numbers similar to 2020 pandemic numbers.
Classes are set to begin on Monday, registration is still open.
The fall 2020 headcount across all campuses reached 8,832. Public Relations and Marketing Coordinator Eric Melcher said the college is trying to get enrollment to pre-COVID levels.
“We have had a few on ground classes throughout the last year and a half but for the most part it’s back to in-person classes,” Melcher said. “As well as all of our online classes this fall. We’re really excited to get people in and it will be so nice having people back on campuses again. We’re really looking forward to it.”
Melcher said that masks will be required inside buildings on campus. Melcher said current students can register online, new students need to visit the Cookeville or Livingston Campuses by Friday to avoid missing any class.
He said registration will run through next week.
“I would really suggest you go into the Cookeville or Livingston campus and see them during normal business hours today, tomorrow or Friday,” Melcher said. “The sooner the better and they can help you fill out an application and get everything rolling the same day. That’s our goal this week is to help get everyone in, even brand new students.”
Melcher said that recently computer information technology classes in Livingston has been gaining student attention. Melcher said there are multiple certifications students can get in this field.
“It’s really what employers are looking for, even more so than degrees, they’re looking for these certifications and we can build those into a student’s program,” Melcher said. “It’s one of those places where if you go into cyber security, you could probably have a job before you graduate from our program. Because it is that in demand.”
Melcher said that late-registration will require instructor approval once classes are missed. He said for programs specific to both campuses, prospective students should visit volstate.edu to find what interests them most.
