Cookeville School of Dance Hosting Open House For Students

Beginner and Advanced dancers are welcome at The Cookeville Leisure Services School of Dance on Monday.

Cultural Arts Superintendent Chad McDonald said every dance season kicks off with an open house. McDonald said parents can learn all about beginner classes and even what their child’s progression could look like through the school.

“The basics of dance and they learn terminology and body movement and all of that from the instructors,” McDonald said. “Once they get to second grade and older, they get into the more advanced classes. We do the classic disciplines of ballet, modern and jazz.”

McDonald said there are classes for students fully dedicated to dance. However, McDonald said you don’t have to be a kid to pick up dance.

“We do have some classes for teenagers and adults who may have danced earlier in life and may want to get back into it. We have some beginning classes for that age as well,” McDonald said. “So we think it’s important to offer classes for all age groups and that’s why we offer from three and up and we even have some beginner classes for older people.”

McDonald said that while all students will be at the open house to reconnect and mingle. He said it is mainly a time for unregistered students to pick their classes.

“Our tuition for classes is very competitive we think,” McDonald said. “We allow students to pay that tuition over time at a zero percent interest if they’d like to do that or they can pay in full the night of the open house. We cater their payment plan to their particular situation.”

The open house is from 4:00 PM until 6:30 PM at the Cane Creek Recreation Center. McDonald said ballet, jazz and modern dance are offered over roughly 35 weeks, with all courses costing $10 per class lesson.
