GES PTO Organizing Playground Cleanup To Help Kids

The Gainesboro Elementary School PTO is asking the community to help fix flood damage along with wear and tear on the playground.

PTO President Leah Harrison said weeds have started growing because of mulch getting washed out. Harrison said anyone is welcome to join in on Saturday to help give kids a safe, clean place to play this school year.

“That’s our whole idea with wanting to do this, we’re trying to get the community more involved in the school this year,” Harrison said. “Just so the kids see faces in the community and they can know that those people care about them.”

Harrison said the goal is to do some repainting on playground equipment that’s showing signs of rust, as well as painting games like hopscotch. She said all people need to do is come, but bringing equipment would be appreciated when volunteers arrive at 7:00 AM at the Gainesboro Elementary School playground.

“I’ve grown very close to all of the kids at the school since I’ve been there as the PTO President,” Harrison said. “Some of those kids need that time to play with their friends and need a good, safe space that they can do that in because some of them may not have that at home.”

Harrison said that it has been about five to six years since the PTO completely redid the playground for kids. She said if people have them available, it would be a help if anyone can bring shovels, rakes and wheelbarrows for the cleanup on Saturday.
