A new memorial honoring veterans and first responders is coming to Fairfield Glade.
Crossville Police Chief Mike Williams chairs the Veterans and First Responders Memorial board. He said that the work is still an ongoing process.
“Right now we’re in the process of securing the land agreement with the Fairfield Glade Community Club who are going to sign a lease with us,” Williams said. “We are waiting on a survey and once that survey is completed we expect to break ground and have a groundbreaking ceremony on that project this Veterans Day.”
Williams said thus far, the non-profit has raise almost $100,000 for the project. He said that they want the memorial to honor those who have made sacrifices for the community, as well as a destination for visitors.
“I’m most looking forward to the completion of the construction,” Williams said. “To where we can walk through and see the names of those who live here in Cumberland County and those who have family members who have served as police officers, an EMT, a firefighter or any of the service members who have served or veterans to see what a great tribute it is to them. ”
Williams said the project was initiated by a member of the community. He said the person was so passionate about honoring the service people of Cumberland County, he worked to establish the nonprofit and initiate the push to erect the memorial.
Williams said the designs for the memorial were created by a committee that worked with a team of architects.
