Dale Hollow Dam Road Closing For Upgrade Project

An equipment replacement project will close Dale Hollow Dam Road in Celina.

Power Plant Superintendent Stanley Carter said the closure is expected to last roughly one month. Carter said the head gate equipment where water enters the turbine will be upgraded.

“The existing equipment was installed when the damn itself was built some 75 plus years ago,” Carter said. “It has reached the end of its service life and we’re replacing it.”

Due to the extensive nature of replacing the head gates, a reopening date has not been set. Carter said barricades will be set up at the north and south ends of the dam, with the public being asked to avoid the area during the project.

“There is an area up there where people swim and you can access that with a boat,” Carter said. “And if they’re there, just don’t walk across and come into contact with where the work is taking place.”

Pedestrians and bicycle traffic will not be allowed to cross the dam during this time. The road will have a barricade at the intersection of Walker Ridge Road and Will Terry Road, as well as Dale Hollow Dam Road/cut through road intersection.
