First of Six UC American Job Center Job Fairs Kicked Off In Putnam County

The first of six American Job Center job fairs across the Upper Cumberland took place Wednesday at the Cookeville Community Center.

Tennessee Tech Student and Cookeville resident Matt Finder attended. Finder said he is already employed, but the event offered a chance for an extra job.

“What I am looking for is one main thing is decent management. People being nice to people,” Finder said. “Obviously the good pay. That’s the big thing now. Everybody is trying to have the highest paying job.”

Thirty-three businesses participated in the hiring event. The next American Job Center event comes Friday at Overton County’s Joe L. Evins Community Center.

Ashley Stuber traveled from Smith County looking for a career. Stuber said the search for employment for her has lasted for a few weeks.

“To look for a job,” Stuber said. “So, my mom told me about this, so I thought I would come and check it out.”

Job fairs continue throughout the month. July 13th in Macon County employers will gather at the Sally Wells Building at the fairgrounds. The American Job Center comes to Jackson County Middle School on July 15th.

The Dekalb County Community Center will have a job fair on July 22nd. Lastly, Monterey High School will host an event on July 26th.
