Tennessee Tech Selects Its First Female Student Trustee

Tennessee Tech’s first-ever female student trustee said she wants to promote accessibility and diversity on campus.

Hannah Willis is a doctoral student in exception learning, and has previously served as a Senator for Tech’s Student Government Association. Willis said the opportunity means a lot to her as she wants to give a voice to all Tech students.

“Being the first female student trustee, as well as the first female trustee with a disability definitely gives a platform for a lot students who often are misunderstood or overlooked,” Willis said. “So this position gives them a voice.”

While the student trustee is a non-voting position, Willis said she is excited to serve as the liaison between the Board of Trustees and the student body. Willis said that it is her goal to ensure the needs and desires of students are being understood.

Willis is from Cookeville, and previously received her undergraduate degree from Tech in psychology. She said that this new position is just another way to give back to the institution that provided her with so much.

“Tennessee Tech has given me so many amazing opportunities as an undergraduate and as a graduate student,” Willis said. “Becoming the student trustee is just one way to give back to Tech’s community.”

Willis is taking over the role as student trustee from Daniel Hines.
