Traffic remains backed up at least 10 miles along I-40 westbound Thursday afternoon after a fiery crash this morning.
Fifty-four-year-old Christopher Mooneyhan was traveling east in a tractor trailer near mile marker 275. Mooneyhan went off the left side of the roadway through a cable barrier and into the median of the eastbound roadway.
Mooneyhan’s vehicle struck the trailer of another truck, hit an earth embankment and then, caught on fire. Mooneyhan died as a result of the accident. The driver of the second vehicle was not injured.
The accident closed the west bound lanes towards Nashville for several hours.
