Clay County Pajama Walk Promoting Youth To Stay Substance Free

The Clay County Anti-Drug Coalition has given a pajama theme to its annual walk to support sobriety.

This Saturday, all residents have a chance to take part and promote healthy choices for Clay County’s youth. Coordinator Daniel Roberts said the driving message of this event is to show young men and women they have to power to say no to drugs and alcohol.

“Try to encourage the youth of our community to critically think about their choices,” Roberts said. “They’re future ambitions and emerging community health and wellness trends that are related to underage substance use, abuse and alcohol use.”

Roberts said that from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM, booths will be set up before the event at the Clay County Community Center. Roberts said this is for participants to learn more about the effects of drugs, nicotine and alcohol.

“We will have some pamphlets on different tables about underage drinking and alcohol use and marijuana use,” Roberts said. “And tobacco use, as we know tobacco is a big thing and it’s turning into vaping.”

Roberts said that while the events topics might be a serious issue for the community to work against. However, he said the Pajama Walk is meant to bring out good feelings about saying no and making smart choices.

“We have prizes and different music playing,” Roberts said. “It’s just a good, fun atmosphere.”

Registration for the three mile Pajama Walk opens up at 8:00 AM at the Clay County Community Center. Roberts said to show up with your pajamas, and enter the community center to join in the fun with a positive message.
