Jackson County Middle School has been recognized as a Beta Club School of Distinction this year.
Principal Gary Tinsley said this distinction means they were able to grow the club by at least 10 percent. Tinsley said the Junior Beta Club got a new sponsor this school year and 26 students were added in 6th-8th grade.
“A lot of students put in a lot of work, our teachers as well,” Tinsley said. “In order to be in the Beta Club they had to have an A average, a 93. We just had several students step up and put forth the effort, they wanted to be part of the club to grow their own value.”
Tinsley said this success with growing the Junior Beta club has spurred interest from the 4th and 5th grades. He said staff in those grades have accepted the challenge to start a Junior Beta Club Division 2 for the youngest students.
“We had some teachers in the 4th and 5th grades that saw what was happening with the upper grades,” Tinsley said. “They wanted all of our students to have access and they said they were willing to start a new club. It’s great when you’ve got faculty and staff willing to step up and volunteer and do things like that. It really helps the whole school environment.”
Unfortunately, Tinsley said the Junior Beta Club was unable to do many of its extra curricular activities because of COVID. However, he expects the club to get back to its volunteering ways in the fall.
