Meet The Candidates: Dawn Dale For Celina Alderman

(Editors Note: This is the first in a series of Meet The Candidate Interviews as we prepare for the June 1 election in Celina. The office of mayor will be filled as will three seats on the Board Of Aldermen.)

Dawn Dale is one of the six people running for Celina Alderman.

Dale said she has been a resident of Clay County for 35 years while residing in Celina for the past 22 years, where she works as a hair dresser. Dale said she is running to make difference at the local level

“I want to be involved,” Dale said. “I want to help make decisions. Important decisions that affect us all. I have children and grandchildren here, and I think it is important for our children’s future to be on the right track.”

Dale said the most pressing issue to her is understanding the financials of Celina and using money in the best places to grow. Dale said as an alderman, she wants to convey this information to citizens and incorporate more community involvement.

This is Dale’s response to being asked what she wants to address as an Alderman.

“I would like to know how much money we have coming in,” Dale said. “Where is this money going? How can we make financially sound decisions and make the most out of the money that we do have, because we have a small tax base here. So, we have to make the most of what we have. How can we make it the best city possible for our future generations. We have roads that are needing repair. The schools here are very important. We need to be involved in our schools more as citizens. We have a lot of tourists that come through here. We need to make the town presentable and actually make it nice for those tourists who come here to see that, ‘Hey, this is a great little place to come to visit,’ or even people that are moving here to. We need jobs, and that would be another important item to look at. What can of jobs can we create here? We have most people working out of town. We lost our hospital, so unless you are a teacher or self-employed person, there really are no jobs around here.”

Dale said this is her outlook for the future of Celina.

“It’s fantastic,” Dale said. “It’s a great little town. We’re a little bit secluded, and we’re a little bit sheltered, but it is a wonderful, wholesome place to bring your children, go to school and live. It is a very nice place, and I am proud to be a Celina resident and citizen.”

Early voting lasts until May 27th. Election Day is June 1st.
