First Southern Roots Festival Fundraiser Coming To Putnam Fairgrounds

The first Southern Roots Bluegrass and Arts Festival is coming the Putnam County Fairgrounds on June 4 and 5.

Southern Accents Market Events Co-Director Mandy White said being in the south, Bluegrass is always a hit. White said that after a tough 2020, it was the right music to get the community together to support Putnam pride.

“With COVID and all and a lot of the things that went on in our community, tornado for example,” White said. “We just feel like we had a lot of negative things happen with everything lately.”

White said the community fun will help raise money for Putnam County Veterans Hall and the Adult and Teen Challenge of the Upper Cumberland. White said veterans and addiction are topics that effect so many of us and were the right fit to benefit.

She said starting from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, people will hear local music, eat local food and see local crafts. White said that admission is $5 and people will pay at the gate.

“We just feel like there was a lot of negative things happen with everything lately,” White said. “I thought, you know being in the south we all love bluegrass and it would be a good way for the community to come together. We’re supporting local vendors that will be there, local musicians that will be there.”

White said that music will range from bluegrass to indie, with food ranging from BBQ to Cajun. She said the local crafts will feature nearly anything you can imagine, that can be handmade.

“From candles to woodwork, repurposed furniture, metal work, jewelry, anything you can think of,” White said. “We even have vendors that have little dog treats that are handmade and bowls and things to decorate up for your dog.”

White said there is an indoor stage available, so the show should go on even if it rains. Tickets are $5 at the gate for anyone 10 years and older.

The Southern Roots Bluegrass and Arts Festival is on June 4 and 5 from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM at the Putnam County Fairgrounds.
