The Tennessee Tech Alumni Association is turning 100 on June 6th, and they plan to host a birthday celebration on the 12th.
While the university itself turned 100 in 2015, the Alumni Association did not form until several years after. Assistant Director of the Alumni Center Kelly Chambers says the Alumni Association’s birthday allows for Tech alumni to reconnect after a year of separation.
“We do want to invite alumni back to campus because we’ve missed seeing alumni the last year and we know alumni have missed being on campus in the last year, so this is a good opportunity to celebrate and reconnect,” said Chambers.
Chambers said many alumni might not know about their status–all it takes is a completion of one class at Tennessee Tech and you’re automatically added to the Alumni Association, no strings attached. She hopes the anniversary events provide alumni with a fun celebration for the Alumni Association’s 100th anniversary, and a celebration of all that it does for alumni.
“It’s a celebration of 100 years of promoting Tech, promoting Tech alumni, help tech alumni stay connected, and we only turn 100 once so we want to make a big deal about it,” said Chambers.
“We want you to come back and celebrate with us, we want you to know what the Alumni Association does, and what it can do for alumni. If they want to find classmates that they’ve lost, or they have a question about campus, or anything that they may need, we’re here,” said Chambers.
The 100th Anniversary celebration will be held on Saturday, June 12, from 11-3, on Tech’s main quad. It will be a family-friendly event with food, music, giveaways and more.
