White Co. Applying For Grant To Help With Home Improvements

White County is applying for Tennessee Housing Development Agency funding for qualified residents to make needed home improvements.

County Executive Denny Wayne Robinson said the grant is meant to assist low income and elderly citizens of the county.

“This is somebody that lives in their home,” Robinson said. “It is to help keep people in their home and help keep the home up, safe and healthy for them. It will be on the county’s part a zero match grant.”

Robinson said the county commission approved applying for the max amount of the grant. Robinson said in the past, the county was awarded about $600,000 through the same grant and improved the homes of six residents.

“It is very dear to my heart,” Robinson said. “Number one, I search everyday to try to bring as much resources and help into the county as I can find and bring in. Anything we can do here to help our local citizens that helps White County, that helps Sparta, that helps the Upper Cumberland.”

UCDD is doing the grant work for the county. Robinson said the county should gain feedback on the application sometime this fall.
