Summer Learning Transportation Grants To Offset Costs For Schools

Putnam County Director of Schools Corby King said state transportation grants for upcoming summer learning camps will be helpful.

Governor Bill Lee allocated $18.5 million dollars to assist school systems across the state. King said this has been something school director’s have been wanting.

“We are currently planning to use some of our ESSER funding, ESSER 2.0 funding to provide transportation for our summer camps and summer programs,” King said. “Directors across the state have been asking the governor for this, so it’s news that that came out, but we’re excited about it, and it will help offset some of those costs.”

Overton County Interim Director of Schools Donnie Holman said if the grants come through, the school system will take advantage.

“I think it is a very good thing,” Holman said. “We’re fortunate to have that. We will definitely use that money to benefit our students, and we will use it wisely.”

King said the governor’s announcement does not change how the school planned to use its COVID money.
