Willow Avenue Apartment Kitchen Fire Contained to One Unit

A 2014 North Willow Avenue apartment suffered kitchen damage after a stove fire Sunday night.

Cookeville Fire Chief Daryl Blair said the flames were contained to just one unit.

“Whenever they opened the door, they had quite a bit of smoke in the apartment and had water flowing,” Blair said. “Theses apartments are sprinkled which is good, because the sprinkler had activated and pretty much contained the fire in the kitchen area.”

Blair said the accidental fire looked to be caused by an unattended stove eye while cooking. Blair said neighboring residents were asked to clear their units as a precaution. No injuries were caused by the fire.

Blair said he wants to remind residents that situations like this can be avoided by cooking with awareness.
