A single vehicle accident in Livingston has caused extended road closures at the intersection of Monterey Highway and Highway 111.
Police Chief Greg Etheredge said a tanker truck carrying fuel ran off the Monterey Highway exit ramp and rolled over into the ditch line early Thursday morning.
“We’re having a little fuel leakage from it,” Etheredge said. “And as a precautionary measure, we’ve cordoned off a section around the accident scene and that is going to be for several hours while the fire department and hazmat teams deal with that situation.”
Etheredge said drivers leaving and entering the city limits will be diverted to Rickman Road. Residences and businesses near by have been evacuated as a precaution to the small amount of fuel spilled. Etheredge said Tractor Supply and Huddle House are temporarily close.
“There’s been no explosion. There’s been no fire,” Etheredge said. “But what we want to make sure is that everybody stays safe, and in the case something did happen, we already have our perimeter set up.”
Etheredge said two of his officers responded to the accident and pulled the truck driver out of the flipped vehicle on arrival. The driver suffered minor injuries.
“At this point in time, we are just making sure that the traffic is moving smoothly through the detours around the accident scene,” Etheredge said.
