A February shooting that left one man dead at the Monterey Waste Management Facility has been determined an act of self-defense.
Bruce Buckner will not be charged in the shooting of Jimmy Doc Gibson. The District Attorney’s Office reviewed a collection of interviews, surveillance footage and physical evidence. It was decided that no criminal charges were needed.
On February 20th, it is reported that the victim Gibson approached Buckner’s vehicle. Gibson appeared to challenge Buckner and threaten him with an open knife.
After revealing the knife, Buckner shot his handgun once while sitting in his vehicle, hitting Gibson in the abdomen. As a result, Gibson passed away.
Buckner stated that when Gibson approached his vehicle he said, “You want to try me out for size?” Buckner responded by telling Gibson to leave him alone. That is when Gibson pulled out his knife and told Buckner to get out of his vehicle. Buckner said he told Gibson that he had a gun before firing, but Gibson continued.
District Attorney Bryant Dunaway in a press release said the statement of Bruce Buckner is consistent with other witnesses and evidence collected during the investigation.
