Overton County School Board recognized school nurses and the county health department for their efforts throughout the pandemic.
During Tuesday’s Board of Education meeting, each healthcare worker received a rose as a token of appreciation. Interim Director of Schools Donnie Holman said regular instruction would not be possible without their help.
“You all were such a great help. You really were,” Holman said. “When this was new, and this was all beginning, we would get stressed awfully easy, and then we would call you. It really made a ton of difference. You all did all this extra work all while maintaining and doing your regular duties, and we really appreciate that.”
Supervisors of the school system also wrote a thank you letter to the workers for the extra hours worked. Holman read the letter and said healthcare workers kept a sense of hope among faculty and staff.
“From handing out meals at the beginning of the pandemic to hours of contact tracing calls both late at night and on the weekend, and researching the latest CDC guidelines, answering phone calls and questions from school teachers at all hours of the day and night (…) and providing an overall leadership to help maintain a sense of hope and encouragement. I can’t express that enough.”
School Board Chairman Jarman Hicks said the workers deserve the acknowledgment for keeping students safe.
“I know a rose isn’t much,” Hicks said. “Trust me I do for what you guys do and put up with, but please take that as a token that we appreciate what you guys have done for us.”
