Cookeville Electric has restored most of its circuits across town with less than 2,000 customers without power at 5pm.
Electric Department Director Carl Haney said crews are now working on working on getting some subdivisions back online as well as isolated outages. Crews will be on standby for more issues as the precipitation continues Monday evening.
“We’re still working as best we can to get those customers back on and hoping we get to a point to if it does hit again, we let our guys get called up a little bit and hopefully get some rest,” Haney said. “We’re monitoring the weather all the time to make sure what’s going on.”
Haney said the power problems began soon after heavy rains moved in around 1pm with temperatures right around 32 degrees.
“The problem started about 10 minutes after 1:00 is when it really got one of our circuits and then after that, it just sort of escalated from there,” Haney said. “We ended up at one time having around six of our circuits out, which probably equates to around, you know, 6,000 customers, maybe closer to 7,000 at one time.”
Haney said falling trees were the main culprit with a handful of poles brought down as well.
