The Overton County Health Department is seeing a decrease in positive COVID cases over the last two weeks.
Director Andy Langford said the county has dropped from 18.2 cases per day to 6.7 new cases. Langford said it is encouraging to see the positivity rate fall to 11.6 percent after previously seeing numbers in the 20 percent range.
“The thing to remember though is also, we’re not testing as many people as we used to,” Langford said. “As we have over the last, going back from months and months. We’re now averaging about 37 tests a day in Overton County.”
As for vaccinations, Langford said 1,673 vaccines had been given, as of Thursday. He said there are 582 people who have received the second dose of the vaccination. Langford said they are currently giving vaccinations to people 70 years and older or in groups 1a, 1a2 and 1b.
“We’re just telling people, very soon we hope we would move to the next group. That the Governor deems necessary to get the vaccine,” Langford said. “We hope and we think that may be 65 and over, and then we will start working from there.”
Langford said there are 200 to 300 people on the vaccine waiting list. Langford said that residents should remember that they cannot get onto the waiting list before their group is eligible.
