Byrdstown Applying For CDBG Funds For Water Line Project

Byrdstown will focus on solving water loss issues if the town receives a Community Development Block Grant.

The town will apply for $685,000 in federal funds. Mayor Sam Gibson said the plan would be to remove an aging water line in Eagle Cove.

“The line is a quarter of a mile through a wooded area where we can not travel,” Gibson said. “And like I say, with a lot of potential for sink holes and caves and things like that that could be one of the big leaks we have.”

Gibson said that four inch line currently feeds Star Point Village. Gibson said if removed, an eight inch line would be installed to feed that area. Gibson said that would lessen the amount of services for an already congested Eagle Cove water line.

“That would eliminate your problem that we are having over at Eagle Cove area by having low pressure, low volume,” Gibson said. “When you only got four inch lines feeding an area like that, you are going to have low volume. That takes a lot of pressure of that, and then, it would also turn around and make everything much better for Star Point and Star Point Village, because they would have their own line.”

The grant application is due in February. Byrdstown has been awarded the grant twice since 2017. The first used to rehabilitate the water system in the Bloomington area. The second also focusing on Eagle Cove and Star Point.
