Crossville is following up with residents who’ve gotten trees from the annual giveaway to try and improve the event.
Tree Board Chairman Bruce Anderson said a survey is up on Crossville’s website for feedback on which trees have grown successfully. Anderson said the survey will help gauge if the tree board needs to do more education on tree planting.
“There’s an incentive to fill it out and give it back to us, there will be a variety of mechanisms for doing that,” We’re going to draw from the people who submit those surveys and the winner will get a $200 gift certificate from a local nursery.”
Anderson said there is a lot the Tree Board can learn from people filling the surveys out. For example, if they determine people do know how to plant trees that are still dying.
“Maybe we need to see some of the nurseries about getting some kind of different way to ship the trees,” Anderson said. “Where there survival is better or something like that, if we’re not getting good survival.”
He said blooming trees are the most popular, but there could be something else people want at the March 5 giveaway at Centennial Park. Anderson said the goal is to provide the best trees possible for Crossville and people’s property.
“It seems like a lot of them like trees that bloom,” Anderson said. “Red Buds that bloom real nice in the Spring but there might be some other stuff that people would like to have that we don’t have available.”
Surveys can either be dropped off at the Arbor Day event on March 5 or mailed to Crossville. The deadline for surveys is March 19,
