House Speaker Cameron Sexton said he is cooperating with FBI Officials participating in raids Friday morning at the State Legislature.
At least 10 agents from the FBI entered the Cordell Hull legislative office building just before 8am to search offices of several legislators. The investigation centers around former House Speaker Glenn Casada.
Agents reportedly searched the home and office of Casada. They also searched the home of Sexton’s Chief Of Staff Holt Whitt, according to the Tennessean. Whitt is a holdover from the Casada leadership team.
“Since becoming Speaker, I have been contacted by federal authorities regarding an ongoing investigation related to the former speaker’s office,” Sexton said. “I have been, and I will continue to be in full cooperation with the authorities as their investigation continues.”
Sexton placed several staff members who were carryovers from the Casada administration on leave Friday.
“On the advice of both Ethics and Legal Counsel, I am placing everyone that was subject to the execution of today’s search warrants on administrative leave until further notice,” Sexton said.
