The Gainesboro Board of Alderman wants to meet with T-DOT to discuss repairing state right-of-way along Grundy Quarles Highway.
The area of concern is a parking lot along the roadway near Walnut Street. Business owners voiced concerns about potholes near the parking lot’s border last week.
Real Deal Thrift Store Co-Owner Steve Hamlet said drivers avoiding the damaged area causes Walnut Street to be blocked.
“It is full of potholes, as well,” Hamlet said. “And, that is part of the issue. People do not want to drive through the potholes. They would rather pull up by our building to avoid the potholes. That had been mentioned by the owner of the flower shop. She doesn’t want her customers having to drive through the pot holes.”
Alderman Wayne Strong said this has been an ongoing situation for over a year. Strong said since customers have parked on the state right-of-way for so long, T-DOT has stopped enforcing the area.
The Board decided to survey the area to reestablish property lines and plan for a solution to determine who is responsible repairs.
