Jackson County Schools Could Start Security Project Before July

Jackson County Schools could start on their entrance security upgrades before June 30.

School Director Kristy Brown said they have consulted with an engineer and there’s a meeting scheduled for January. Brown said these would put double entrances in place, avoiding people being able to go directly into schools.

“We’re going to start working towards that, possibly one school at a time or if the board chooses to do so, they may fund them at once,” Brown said. “I’m not sure how that will go forward but we are moving forward with that.”

Brown said she hopes to start getting some initial designs on the project during January’s engineer meeting. She said that will allow prices to start being put on the projects at each school.

“We’re moving forward on that,” Brown said. “Hope to get started before this fiscal year is over.”

This project will be partially funded from a reoccurring state safety grant. The grant is worth $39,000.
