Nameless FD Fundraising Through Smoked Meat Sale

Local volunteer fire departments are getting creative with fundraising as COVID has cancelled many events.

Jackson County’s Nameless Volunteer Fire Department is one of those by selling smoked turkeys and hams. Chief Josh Locke said fundraisers like this are the main source of funds for volunteer fire departments.

“I am going to say 98 percent, because we are available to get grants through the government, but that doesn’t help with our everyday operating cost of fuel and upkeep of the equipment,” Locke said. “We are only allotted so many things we can buy with those grants. We rely a lot on fundraising and donations.”

Locke said each meat is at least eight pounds and costs $40. Orders are due by December 16th with contactless pickups at the Nameless Fire Department on the 19th.

“They can go on Facebook and look up the Nameless Volunteer Fire Department Facebook page,” Locke said. “There is a link there to Cheddar Up. You can download the app on your phone and go on there and order what you want. We will have a pick-up day and time at our fire station, and we are looking into doing a Cookeville pickup, as well.”

Locke said not only will the funds go to protecting the community, but letting your fire fighters smoke the meat also prevents fires.

‘This is the time of year you do have a lot of fires due to people trying to cook turkeys and hams,” Locke said. “Hopefully, it will cut down on that.”

Raffle chances are also being sold on the app for a $250 Visa Gift Card.
