Genesis House Asking Community To Participate In Gift Program

Cookeville residents have until December 8th to participate in the Genesis House Angel Tree gift program.

The community event is meant to give survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault a Merry Christmas. Program Manager Danielle Girt said there are three locations where someone can pick up an angel Christmas list.

“We have a few different angel tree locations for the community to go and just walk in to that facility and to find an angel on a Christmas tree,” Girt said. “Those locations are First Horizon Bank on South Jefferson, S&R Marine on Interstate Drive and Citizens Bank on Jackson Street.”

The lists are made up of past and present clients of the Genesis House. Girt said many of these women and children only receive gifts through this program.

“If you pick up an angel off of a tree at one of those three locations, then you would just purchase the gifts ideas that are on the angel,” Girt said. “For instance, it will tell you the gender, the age of the person, their pants size, their coat size and a few little things they may appreciate.”

Girt said gifts must be returned wrapped at the location the angel was picked up. The Genesis House is also accepting donations if all Christmas lists are taken.

“Those donations get used specifically to provide a hot meal for those clients at the Christmas party that we do,” Girt said. “Or, to purchase any gifts that are not already purchased by the deadline.”

If you are unable to return the gifts at your location, you can also arrange a pick-up date with Girt by calling (931)-525-1637.
