Interstate 40 west of Baxter reopened after a two-hour shutdown Thursday night resulting from a truck fire.
A fire started at the back of an 18-wheeler travelling eastbound. Fire officials do not know how the fire started. The concern was batteries inside the truck. However, fire officials responded quickly enough that flames never reached the batteries.
The incident happened in the eastbound lanes which are shutdown at mile marker 271. Mile marker 271 lies between the Highway 56 exit at the crest of the ridge and the Buffalo Valley Road at the bottom of the mountain.
No injuries reported.
