Thanksgiving is not the only holiday around the corner, hunters will be celebrating this Saturday as gun hunting season for deer begins.
TWRA Wildlife Information Specialist Míme Barnes said this is popular time in the Upper Cumberland as sportsmen and women head out to hunt. Barnes said before hunting check that your wearing enough safety orange, know your areas sunset and sunrise tables and get up to date on the newest regulation.
“Another thing that’s new this year is tag before you drag and you can do that a couple of ways,” Barnes said. “Electronically tag your animal before it’s removed from the woods or a paper tag that can be found at the bottom of a printed license.”
According to the TWRA, hunters can use the TWRA On the Go app and report their deer with or without cell service. If paper tagged, hunters still need to check their deer in online at GoOutdoorsTennessee.com or at a physical check station no later than midnight.
Sportmen and women can also use a muzzleloader or archery equipment. Barnes said know the rules, depending on your load out.
“Guidelines are in the hunting guide and we really encourage people to review the hunting regulations,” Barnes said.
The season will continue through January 3, 2021.
