Employees of the White County School System will be receiving one time bonuses entering this holiday season.
The Board of Education approved $500 for certified teachers and $250 for classified employees. Director of Schools Kurt Dronebarger said the money was budgeted earlier this year.
“Back in the spring, there were so many unknowns about where we were going,” Dronebarger said. “So, we had really conservative budgets put together. We knew we wanted to do something for facility and staff, and we knew there was hard work ahead of them. We did put in a bonus there. Just a little shot in the arm here at Christmas time.”
Dronebarger said the board intended to give raises earlier this year, but budget uncertainties put this on hold. Dronebarger said the bonuses reward faculty for their extra work to keep students in school.
“We love and appreciate what you are doing for kids,” Dronebarger said. “Just a thank you. It is not what they deserve. It is not near enough, but it is a little something to say thank you.”
