Jamestown Comes Up Short on Water Contest Three-Peat

Jamestown’s string of two state water titles has ended.

Jamestown did not make the top three for “Best Tasting Water” in this year’s Tennessee Association of Utility District Drinking Water Contest. This would have been Jamestown’s third straight year taking the title. Maynardville took this year’s title.

Jamestown Mayor Lyndon Baines said it was an honor to reach the state contest. He said Jamestown sill has bragging rights in the region.

“We’ll come back, we may win the whole thing next year, and so we’re not giving in just yet, this didn’t deter us one bit, and so we’re still happy with everything ” Baines said. “We’re working on our water plants now anyway and getting some stuff done and so, maybe even we’ll have a better chance next year.”

Baines said this type of recognition is possible because of the city’s utility workers, including 2019 TAUD Water Operator of The Year Chris Ramsey. Baines said the knowledge Ramsey brings to Jamestown’s water treatment is why the city reaches this contest.

“He knows his stuff when it comes to water, and so that’s one of the reasons I think we win the best tasting water in our region and won best in the state two years in a row,” Baines said. “Chris knows his stuff about all this, about the water and the chemicals and everything else.”

11 regions competed for the best tasting drinking water in Tennessee. Jamestown is part of TAUD Region 4, which includes 13 counties in the Upper Cumberland.
