Farris Meets With Capshaw Leaders

Putnam County Sheriff Eddie Farris spent part of Tuesday meeting with school officials about the proposed expansion of the Justice Center and Jail.

“Meeting with the administrators and the principal, Ms. Wood, and others from the central office, explaining to them simply how the jail would affect them,” Farris said. “And quite honestly, it’s not going to affect them at all.”

Several residents expressed concern about the proximity of the facility to Capshaw Elementary. County Commissioners approved the purchase of two additional parcels Monday which gives the project enough parking to move forward. County Commissioners voted in April to expand the facilities in the parking lot of the current building.

Farris said this week’s concerns surprised him.

“This has been going on for a couple of years now in the planning stages, so it’s a little surprising,” Farris said. “You know obviously respect everybody’s view of where the jail addition should be. But I am a little surprised that some of the things I’ve been hearing in in but respect their opinion for sure. I just wish, you know, I hear all kinds of talk out in the community that that’s nowhere near accurate.”
