Free Drive-Thru Flu Shots at Three Putnam Schools

The Putnam County Health Department will hold a drive-by flu shot event Monday at three schools.

Anyone is welcome to get a free flu shot at either Burks Elementary, Upperman Middle School or Jere Whitson Elementary from 3pm-7pm Monday.

Putnam County Health Department Director Lisa Bumbalough said during the pandemic it’s important to protect everyone’s health.

“With COVID this year circulating it’s even more important that you stay healthy and stay well and stay vaccinated,” Bumbalough said. “When you get that flu vaccine, you’re not just protecting yourself from the flu but you’re also protecting your family, you friends and anyone that actually is around you.”

Bumbalough said flu shots are recommended by both state and federal agencies.

“The Tennessee Department of Health and CDC recommend flu vaccines for everyone age six months and older,” Bumbalough said.

Even though it’s set up like a drive-thru, Bumbalough said walk-ups are allowed. Individuals interested in participating do not need to bring anything with them to qualify for a free flu shot.

“You’ll just be asked some questions, your demographic information,” Bumbalough said. “You’ll just pull up and we’ll give you a flu shot and then you’re on your way.”

Bumbalough said there are also free flu shot opportunities at the Cookeville Community Center every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The community center drive-thru will run from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
