Fall Color And Waterfowl Cruise Through November

Edgar Evans State Park is hosting Fall Color and Waterfowl cruises every other day until November 12.

Park Ranger Mark Taylor said up to 12 participants can load on a boat and take a tour of Center Hill Lake.

“It’s a way to get out on the lake and enjoy the nice fall days while seeing the fall colors as they change,” Taylor said. “It’s also a good time to look at waterfowl, look at wading birds and diving birds along the way. And to learn maybe a little of local history that they may not know.”

Taylor said the three hour cruise is available for anyone over the age of four. Participants should layer appropriately and bring binoculars and a camera.

The cruise includes a history lesson behind Center Hill Lake and the Caney Fork River area. Taylor said Hurricane Bridge is the autumn color viewing area.

“Every year is different, so sometimes we have really good years and sometimes we have really bad years for color so it’s all hit or miss along the way,” Taylor said. “We’ll talk a little bit about the science behind why fall colors, why the colors of the trees produce the colors they do.”

Migrating waterfowl such as common loons and some ducks could possibly be spotted along the way.
