The Clay County Board of Education is purchasing new video surveillance equipment for all three schools.
Curriculum and Instruction Supervisor Misty Strong said some of the old equipment is over ten years old. She said this project is important for student and faculty safety.
“It’s been able to see all of our main entrances and exits, as well as our high traffic areas,” Strong said. “So students that are going to and from the outside areas to the inside of the school, but it also monitors visitors. We have like a door buzzer, an intercom system, so that allows the cameras to cover all our main entrances, exits.”
Strong said replacing the video surveillance equipment is the last piece of Clay County BOE’s three year safety plan, funded through an over $30,000 Safe Schools Grant.
The largest project the school system has worked on is installing security SIM on all windows and doors in four county campuses. Strong said this includes two elementary schools, the high school, and the adult learning center.
“So each year we’ve done something different,” Strong said. “We began with our entrances and exits at the schools. Then we went, for example, to the front of the building, all of the glass in the front of the building. Then this year our third phase will be the back glass pieces of Clay County High School.”
The equipment is an estimated $20,000.
