The owners of Cumberland County’s Autumn Acres have retired from operations.
The Woods family operated the farm for almost 20 years. Owner Stephanie Woods said the original plan was to open this fall one last time. But, worries about COVID made the family rethink their decision.
“We do get a lot of people who come in and out of the farm,” Woods said. “It is not a small amount of people that come through our gates. It would have been kind of hard to be able to social distance people other than if they were in the maze.”
About 20,000 people visit Autumn Acres every fall. Woods said the health and age of her family members also played a role. Woods declined to comment on the future of the farm but said to look for future updates regarding farm operations.
“We do not have a statement about the farm,” Woods said. “We hope in the next couple of weeks that we will be able to revisit that, and of course, we will put something out on social media and our website. We want to let our customers know they are our main concern.”
Woods said her husband’s business, Jeff Woods Construction, takes majority of his time and ability to help operate the farm. Woods said the family just did not have the time to run both businesses.
“It has become very hard for him to be able to also be involved and help me run Autumn Acres,”Woods said. “That was a very big part of it, but the main thing is we are very excited for the next step we are taking.”
Woods said her family will enjoy spending quality time with each other this fall but will still be apart of local agricultural.
